DISTRICT UPDATE  - October 18, 2024

Dear Millburn Staff and Families,

Board of Education Meeting Review

On Monday night we welcomed our student representatives for 2024-2025, Zachary Glatt and Jackson Ruddy, to the Board of Education. They shared student insights from the Student Liaison Committee, and presented results of a survey showing a majority of students like the new grading and assessment guidelines.

The role of the student representative includes being a representative to the entire HS student body, updating the Board on school activities, and bringing suggestions to the Board.  They also keep high school students informed of the business of the Board. We look forward to their reports and to hearing about the exciting events, programs, and activities at the HS.

We also gave an update on Assessment and Grading at the high school. Thanks to Dr. Miron and Mr. Connolly for their input.  Buildings and Grounds Director, Dan Knipe, shared a slideshow highlighting the array of projects undertaken and completed this summer.  Thanks to him and his staff for an impressive amount of work to maintain and improve our school facilities!

Millburn Middle School Peer Leaders, the Friday Friends and community members teamed up today to make the red ribbons that will be on display around town to remind students and residents about the risks and dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.

The Millburn Municipal Alliance Committee sponsors Red Ribbon Week each year, with assemblies at all of the schools, Spirit Days, and a special evening presentation of Screenagers Under the Influence for parents and their students in grades 6-12.

This is an opportunity to talk and pledge to be DRUG FREE…communicating a clear and consistent family policy about alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug use delays or prevents early drug usage. Studies show that families who have conversations during the elementary school years are less likely to have substance abuse issues later on. Parents are the best deterrent and important role models. Team up and get the conversations started with your kids by celebrating these days during RED RIBBON WEEK 2024.
